Shell IA 2020

ATO Architects delivers daylight-optimized Shell office in Port Harcourt

The project located in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria was designed by ATO Architects Limited following Shell’s Connect Workplace Design Standards strictly. The building is a deep rectangle on 2 levels with a barrel roof. It has a structural steel frame with blockwork infill. The external walls are clad with composite aluminum panels with aluminum framed curtain-walling on the front of the building. The aluminum framed windows are fitted with solar control glass reducing the cooling requirement in the building. The depth of the building necessitated the introduction of a large roof lights with self-cleaning solar control glass to ensure that the entire interior receives adequate natural lighting. The footprint of the building is 1804 square meters. The floor area of the first floor has been reduced by voids which help to ensure that the natural light reaches the lower level of the building. The upper level is reached by means of two structural steel staircases with granite treads. Ceilings are acoustic metal ceilings and wall partitions are double glazed fire-rated gypsum and glass partitions. A bridge links the two sides of the building’s first floor level.
