Ijora Fish Market

ATO Architects improves access and layout for efficient fish market terminal design.

There are no coordinated vehicular and pedestrian access to the site per se, as existing access in and out of the site is mainly informal. This aspect led the design team at ATOAL at the early stages, to consider and quickly solve the problem of access routes & connectivity to the site.

In adherence to the project brief, together with these physical and design constraints, there was the need to achieve high level of land-use efficiency.

This informed a solution that was cohesive in layout, drastically reducing the composite footprint impact on the site. The essence was to improve social interactions,

interdepartmental exchange of goods and uninterrupted movement of users of the terminal building and ferries. A functional response of providing a simple organization was adopted for clarity and way finding for users of the fish market.
