The Ilorin International Airport was built as a secondary airport to Murtala Mohammed Airport in the 1970s. After
a series of military coups and changes in government at the national level, Ilorin Airport was left in a state of disrepair. The government of President Obasanjo requested a new terminal building of a significant profile but within a narrow budget. The practice was recommended to design the proposed terminal based on our work on the Osubi Airport in Warri.

ATO Architects was appointed Architects and Project Managers and thereafter engaged other specialist consultants to execute the project, which consisted of:
• 2024sqm of open space on the ground floor, for the arrival hall, departure lounge, baggage handling hall, government agency offices and airline offices.
• 155sqm of open space on the first floor for additional government agency offices.
• 155sqm of open space on the second floor for airport management offices.
• 20m high Control Tower, with provisions for future horizontal expansion to be sited on the western axis of the proposed Terminal building.

The building was designed and successfully executed to a tight budget.
