ATO Architects Ltd, as part of the LYKE Corporation/CNEEC Consortium, developed the architectural design for the proposed Tamale Stadium in Northern Ghana. Conceived as a 20,000-seat multi-purpose sporting complex, the project brings together a FIFA-standard football stadium, synthetic athletics track, indoor sports hall, training pitches and practice courts, athletes’ hostel, hospitality suites, VIP facilities, press and medical facilities, concessions, extensive parking, and dedicated police and fire stations. The planning places strong emphasis on spectator safety, efficient circulation, accessibility, and the separation of public, VIP, athlete, service, and operational movements.

The design was inspired by the ambition to create more than a tournament venue, positioning the stadium as a lasting piece of civic and sporting infrastructure for Northern Ghana. Conceived in response to Ghana’s preparation for the 2008 African Cup of Nations, the scheme sought to combine international sporting standards with sensitivity to its local setting and long-term economic viability. The result is envisioned as a flexible, community-oriented sports destination capable of supporting major competitions while continuing to generate social, recreational, and commercial value beyond tournament use.
